THE year was 1894 and a former Newtown musician was now living in Siam.

Little is known of Mr NK Passmore's life in Montgomeryshire apart from his qualifications as an engineer and being a keen musician.

However he would forever become known in the country now known as Thailand as Welshman who accidentally captured a tiger.

Mr Passmore had developed a fondness for the taste of the native capon during his time living in Pak Preo and had come to tend a small farm.

However during 1894 the Welshman had been dismayed to discover his treasured fowl had begun to go missing.

Angry and determined to capture the perpetrators, Mr Passmore had resolved to engineer a trap.

The next morning he had awoken to inspect the trap but instead of finding a local thief he discovered a young tiger in the pit.

Mr Passmore was joined by his assistant, a Mr Muller, in using ropes and binds to free the creature from captivity and release it to the jungle.
