A MAN has admitted drug driving and possession of a Class B drug

Kieran Anthony Vaughan, 33. of Llwynhendy, Newtown, pleaded guilty to both offences when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates Court.

Helen Tench, prosecuting, said Vaughan was stopped by police on June 18, on Llanidloes Road in Newtown.

Officers noticed that his eyes were glazed but there was no smell of alcohol.

On searching his vehicle, officers found a bag of white powder found, which turned out to be 33.77g/mol of amphetamines.

Vaughan told officers that he had purchased the drug for a festival.

Robert Hanratty, defending, said Vaughan had been stopped as part of routine checks and there was no evidence of impaired driving.

He said: “He worked in the construction industry and sometimes it is commonly used as a ‘pick me up’ working long unsociable hours.

“He is a hard-working young man.”

As Vaughan was subject to licence conditions, chair of the magistrates bench Dr Rachel Jones sentenced him to 150 hours of unpaid work, and banned him from driving for 12 months.

He will also pay £85 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
