In reply to David Leah ‘s letter, I was first struck by the sheer length of this rambling epistle, more like a manifesto than a letter.

In his letter he states that we in Wales have a higher GDP than Spain – which is patently nonsense and totally incorrect as Spain has the sixth largest economy in Europe.

In fact, as detailed clearly in a report from Wales Fiscal Analysis (WFA) from Cardiff University the Welsh fiscal deficit amounts to £4,370 per person which is significantly greater than the UK average of £632 per person.

Like many who support the concept of an independent Wales, Mr Leah seems to have only a sketchy grasp of basic economics and seems to believe that a “funding stream” will appear magically from somewhere to pay for their pipe dreams.

As a proud Welshman operating a successful business in Wales I believe the first step to independence is to generate more wealth in Wales by looking outwards to encourage and attract businesses and industry (and hence good jobs) by possibly creating zones of low or zero corporation tax in areas of high unemployment.

I can’t think of a good solution to any problem being “lets have some more politicians” – but this is what would happen with an independent Wales. And as we say in Wales, Diwedd Y Gan yw’r geiniog – At the end of the song comes payment.
