Work to demolish a vandal-hit former secondary school building will begin next week.

Demolition of the former Brecon High School building will be carried out by Bond Demolition on Monday, January 18, as the council prepares the site for future development.

Powys County Council said the current state of the building is too poor to redevelop.

The building has been empty since pupils and staff moved into a new £21 million secondary school building in December 2019.

Cllr Phyl Davies, Cabinet Member for Education and Property, said: "We have decided to go-ahead with the demolition on health and safety grounds due to the condition of the old Brecon High School building.

"The building is in too poor of a condition to redevelop. It has also been subjected to vandalism and break-ins since it has been empty.

"The demolition will also allow the council to prepare the site for any future development."
