'SELFISH' people are continuing to break lockdown rules, police say.

Patrols were out over the weekend to check people were sticking to the Covid-19 regulations.

Officers of North Wales Police Rural Crime Team, said: "Another day wasted dealing with COVID rule breakers.

"So frustrating that we have to deal with these people who simply don't care whilst the vast majority of us do the right thing and stay at home.

"We are seeing people from England and various areas of Wales...so selfish."

The Leader previously reported that North Wales Police's Flintshire North Team also reminded residents of the ongoing restrictions and rules around exercise after visiting Wepre Park

A spokesman for the team said: "Please remember you cannot travel for the purpose of exercise unless you have a very good reason such as requiring to attend somewhere flat due to a disability.

"Exercise must start and finish at home - we know previously you've been allowed to travel but that is not now the case.

"We have been at a number of locations, including Wepre Park, where a number of people have been reported for the breaches."

North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Arfon Jones has also spoke out after scores of people flouted the regulations and flocked to beauty spots across the region.

By Saturday lunchtime more than 100 cars had been turned away from Moel Famau, with some driving past and ignoring "road closed" signs.

Meanwhile, in Snowdonia car parks have been closed to deter visitors.

Until now the police response has been guided by the so-called four 'Es' – to engage and find out why the rules were being broken, explain the rules and rise, encourage people to behave responsibly and to only take enforcement action as a last resort.

The regulations allow for fixed penalty notices can be issued with fines ranging from £60 to £10,000.

However, First Minister Mark Drakeford said at the Welsh Government press conference last week that people who knowingly and willingly flout the lockdown rules, action will be taken.
