THE occupants of a car had a lucky New Year escape when they evaded police after abandoning their vehicle in a south Powys village.
The Ford estate car was found abandoned in Talybont-on-Usk, near Brecon, on January 2, after it had failed to stop for Joint Firearms Unit officers.
The force’s Powys Roads Policing Unit were called in to assist and located the vehicle which had been abandoned and the occupants had made off. Police dogs were also called in but the occupants escaped and the vehicle was seized.
A force spokesperson said: “The vehicle failed to stop for officers, so Powys RPU attended to try to pick up the car, which was found abandoned in Talybont.
“The occupants had made off so a police dog was brought in to help with a search, however, they were not found. The vehicle was seized as it had no insurance.”
