Bishop’s Castle’s primary school and college are closed to most pupils until at least the end of February half-term.

Both Bishop’s Castle Primary School and the Community College are partially open to children of essential keyworkers, with online learning for all other pupils.

In a letter to parents and carers, Bishop’s Castle Primary School headteacher Andrew Barker said: “The new strain of the virus is obviously more transmissible and the fewer people in school, the better.”

Children at the primary school will be helped with their online learning and other fun activities.

Parents and carers who are not going to work during the lockdown have been asked not to use the school’s childcare provision unless it is necessary to do so.

The Community College has asked the community to help with a coronavirus mass testing programme which will be put into action as soon as pupils return.

Headteacher Reuben Thorley said: “For the College to be able to deliver the testing programme we will need to ask the community to pitch in.

"If you are able to volunteer your time to support the testing programme, please complete the Mass Testing Volunteer return so that we can try and include you in our plans going forward.”

An online form is available to fill in here.

“Thank you for your understanding and continued support during this difficult time, and stay safe,” Mr Thorley added.
