A MONTGOMERY man has admitted being drunk and disorderly in Newtown.

John Anthony Jones, 54, of Brooklyn, Llandysil, Montgomery, pleaded guilty when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates Court and admitted breaching a suspended prison sentence he was previously given.

Justin Espie, prosecuting, said that around 11pm on November 23, police were contacted after members of the public became concerned for the welfare Broad Street.

The man (Jones) appeared to have blood on his hands and was shouting and swearing several times when officers arrived.

Robert Hanratty, defending, said Jones who was subject to a suspended sentence order which was due to expire next week at the end of December, may have had his drinks spiked.

He said: "Mr Jones went out for a couple of drinks, and after a few pints he had never previously had the experience he had on this occasion.

"He thinks someone may have slipped something into his drink. He very much regrets this incident and is somewhat embarrassed by it."

Chair of the magistrates bench Dr Rachel Jones declined to activate the suspended sentence, and instead opted to extend it by a further for months for the breach.

For being drunk and disorderly, Jones was given a four-month conditional discharge. He will also pay £85 costs and a £22 victim surcharge.
