A WOMAN has admitted stealing bottles of wine from Sainsbury's in Welshpool.

Sarah Louise Morgan, of Bronybuckley, Welshpool pleaded guilty to theft when she appeared at the town's magistrates court.

Anouska Youds, prosecuting, said that Morgan, 40, entered the Sainsbury's store in Welshpool shortly before 5pm on September 19, went to the alcohol section and placed bottles of wine in her bag, before leaving and making no attempt to pay.

She was caught on CCTV and in interview claimed she could not remember the incident as she had been drinking a lot.

Robert Hanratty, defending, said Morgan had been going through a "very difficult" time as her mother is unwell and she had coping difficulties, turning to drink for comfort.

Chair of the magistrates bench Judith Baker gave Morgan a 12-month conditional discharge.

She will also have to pay £85 court costs and a £22 victim surcharge.
