AS Wales prepares to enter Alert Level 4 restriction after Christmas, figures from Public Health Wales show Powys is being locked down with most places having fewer than 100 cases, per 100,000 people.

Public Health Wales' map shows that Llanidloes still has the fastest rising number of cases in Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire with more than 1,000 cases per 100,000 people, on average, in the last three weeks.

But overall, the number of new cases found has fallen sharply across Powys in the last few weeks, with the exception of a handful of places in the south of the county such as Builth.

The Public Health Wales map presents data broken down beyond the standard local authority areas and shows how individual communities compare.

The data is gathered using Office of National Statistics figures of middle layer super output areas (MSOAs) and present the rolling number of cases in either a seven-day or 21-day window.

Darker areas indicate higher concentrations of the virus whilst lighter areas show lower transmission rates. The map details state that case numbers are suppressed for any MSOA where there were fewer than three identified cases.

Above, we’ve taken a snapshot look at the latest available 21-day period leading up to December 12, 2020.
