A FEMALE driver was airlifted to hospital after her car collided with an articulated lorry on the A470 Llanidloes bypass early on Friday morning (today).

The road was closed for about eight hours following the accident, which occurred at around 7.40am. Dyfed Powys Police said the road was likely to remain closed for a considerable period of time. It was reopened around 4pm.

The force said: "The earlier road closure on the A470 at Llanidloes bypass is now open. Thank you for your patience. Please drive carefully."

A force spokesperson earlier said of the incident: “Dyfed Powys Police was called to a collision involving a car and an articulated lorry on the A470 Llanidloes bypass at around 7.40am today (Friday, December 18).

“The driver of the car has been airlifted to hospital. Her two passengers were treated at the scene by paramedics.

“The road will remain closed for some time for collision investigation work to be carried out.

“Anyone travelling along this stretch of road at the time of the collision who had dash cam footage, or saw the collision or the vehicles involved, is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.”

A tweet from Traffic Wales described the incident as a "serious collision", adding that the area affected was "between the roundabout and the B4518".

Drivers are being advised to find an alternative route.
