A FATHER of three has realised the consequences of his cannabis use after social services became involved following a police search of his home which uncovered £200 of the Class B drug.

Liam Joseph Evans admitted possessing 20 grams of cannabis when he appeared before magistrates in Llandrindod Wells on Wednesday, December 2.

Prosecutor Stephen Davies said police executed a search warrant at the defendant’s Trefonen Way home in Llandrindod on October 30 and the 30-year-old surrendered various amounts of the drug.

“PC Matthews and number of colleagues executed a warrant at the defendant’s address and he showed them where it was,” Mr Davies said.

“He produced a small plastic bag containing a green herbal substance, as well as a number of other amounts, all of which amounted to £200.

“He said all the drugs were his own and that he had bought in bulk as it was cheaper. He told officers he smoked around 1-2g per day.”

Mr Davies said there were previous matters on Evans’ record and that the last offence occurred in March of this year.

Gareth Walters, acting for Evans, said: “He was fully cooperative during the search and told officers where the cannabis was.

“He is a shop assistant and takes home £200 per week. He is a father of three and has learnt his lesson as a result of this offence. He was stopped from seeing his children and has had to cut down, if not cut out, his cannabis use.

“He realises now the consequences of cannabis use. The previous offence is his only conviction in the last six years and was a case of cannabis being posted to him, while there is a supply charge from 2014.”

Chair of the bench, Karen Williams, said: “It is unfortunate as you are not only putting your livelihood at risk but also your children. It is time to come to the end of road with your drug use and hopefully this will persuade you.”

Magistrates fined him £335 fine and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £34 surcharge.
