A care home worker will be spending Christmas Day paddle boarding around Lake Vyrnwy dressed as Mother Christmas to raise money for charity.

Isabelle Titley, an activity co-ordinator at The Oaks in Newtown, will take on the challenge to support Save the Children.

The 25-year-old from Llanfair Caereinion said she's looking forward to getting out on the "gorgeous" lake to raise lots of money for a good cause.

Speaking ahead of the challenge, Isabelle described her job as "rewarding" especially when service users can't see their families due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"We're all their for each other" she said.

Staff and residents at the care home in Llanidloes Road will also be getting into the festive spirit by wearing their Christmas jumpers on December 11 which marks Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day.

The care home opened in January to meet the area’s growing care needs for the elderly and those affected by dementia, now employs 118 full and part-time staff – an increase of 30 since the summer.

Registered Manager Jen Roberts said: “We’re delighted that residents and staff are keen to get involved in this year’s Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day.

“We have set up a Facebook page for relatives and friends of The Oaks to support us.”
