A CORONAVIRUS mobile testing unit in Powys is shutting early due to the low number of cases being reported in the county.

Powys Teaching Health Board has announced the mobile unit that has been operating in Llanwrtyd Wells this week is to close early.

The mobile unit opened at the town’s Ysgol Dolafon, on Dol-y-Coed Road, last Friday and has been available for anyone showing signs and symptoms of coronavirus.

Testing was scheduled to be available until Sunday, December 6, but the health board has announced that it will now be moved elsewhere in Wales due to the low number of cases in the county.

It will now be moved to other parts of Wales where case numbers are far higher.

The health board tweeted: “Our mobile testing unit in Llanwrtyd Wells has been very effective in identifying local cases of coronavirus, but the numbers using the facility are now very low.

“It will therefore close earlier than originally planned, and the final appointments will be 4.30pm today (December 3).

“This will allow the Mobile Testing Unit to be relocated to areas of the country with much higher rates of coronavirus.”
