Newtown Rotary Club is inviting people during this challenging year with Coronavirus to remember a loved one with a sponsored light on its annual Remembrance Tree of Light.

Last year’s Tree of Light raised £1,200, which the Rotary Club used to support a number of its charities as well as the Newtown branch of the Salvation Army.

Anyone who sponsors this year’s tree will see the name of their loved on on the accompanying 'Roll of Remembrance' displayed at the base of the tree.

Proceeds from this year’s tree will be split equally between the Salvation Army to again support their work with local children at Christmas and Newtown Rotary Club’s charities.

The tree, once again, will be based at Bear Lanes Shopping Centre and the Rotary Club has offered its thanks for the support.

Alan Davies, chairman of the Rotary Club Tree of Light committee, said: “We invite you to participate by sponsoring one or more ‘lights’ in memory of someone dear to you – we ask for a minimum of £5 per name.

"We have included a Gift Aid section on the application form which we hope you will sign if you are a taxpayer, this will further increase the value of your donation.

"On behalf of the Rotary Club of Newtown, I wish you all a very happy Christmas."

Completed forms and cheques can be returned to Morris Marshall & Poole (opposite the Regent Cinema) in Newtown, or by post to Newtown Rotary Club, Beechcroft, Kerry, Newtown, Powys, SY16 4NY.
