COUNCILLOR Olive Williams has resigned from Guilsfield Community Council after serving on it since its inception in 1987, due to a painful knee injury.

She has represented the council as a school governor and is active in village life, being the current chairman of the Evergreens. She was a founder member of the Guilsfield playgroup in the early 1960s, believed to be the county’s first.

She has been a member of the WI and carried out a lot of charity work. Her only regret was the failure of the majority of her colleagues to back her proposal for a pavement from the village to the Derwen Garden Centre supported by a petition of more than 400 residents.

Olive was no stranger to politics having been married to ex-MP for Montgomeryshire, Delwyn Williams.

Her favourite memory is the talk she gave to local school children on the work of the Council, and here are some of the quotes from the letters she still cherishes: ‘I would have voted for you if I could’ Angela ‘My favourite part of your lesson was all of it really’ Katiexxx ‘You must be very hard working and you look after the village very well’ Maggie ‘I was the cheeky one. Please come again, Callum ‘I thought it was fun to listen to. You must really like and care about the village’ Jasmin/
