A CARE home in Radnorshire was treated to the delightful sounds of Llandrindod Wells Silver Band last week as a surprise birthday performance was arranged for one resident.

Lily Curran celebrated her 102nd birthday at Wylesfield Care Home in Lant Avenue last Tuesday, November 10.

The residents and staff enjoyed a real treat, organised by activities coordinator Pam Barlow, in order to fulfil a wish made by birthday girl Lily, who had actually turned 102 on November 5. Lily, who was born in Llandudno in 1918, has led a full and interesting life, travelling the world with her husband, and has a love of the sound of brass bands. She was extremely surprised and delighted to see the band forming up outside the home to serenade her – albeit belatedly due to the Wales-wide lockdown that ended earlier this month.

Pam said: “We are extremely grateful to the musicians of the silver band who gave up their time to come and play for us.

“Mrs Curran was overcome with gratitude and emotion as the band made her wish come true. We sincerely hope to keep the link with the band and hope that they will come and play for us again in the not-too distant future.”
