IN CASE you forgot it’s the Virtual Elan Valley 10-mile Race this weekend – and today is your last chance to enter.

It’s an iconic race and one of Rhayader Running Club’s famed competitions, which has been held every November for over a decade. And members and non-members alike are preparing themselves to take part in this year’s race, albeit a race with a twist, as it will be run virtually on either Saturday or Sunday, November 21-22.

Sadly, due to Covid-19, the club’s annual 10-mile race was cancelled. However, they are delighted that keen runners can still run the race virtually.

Entries are being taken through Entry Central right up until midnight tonight (November 20). Just visit the club website here and click on the sign-up link.

Rather than run the scheduled race route like normal, entrants can run 10 miles on a route of their choice, anywhere, on Saturday or Sunday. Organisers are not monitoring ascent or descent so just run your favourite route uphill or downhill.

Keep track of your mileage and time using your fitness app of choice – Strava, Garmin, Nike Fitness or Tom Tom etc.

Submit evidence (screenshots) to the club via email, at rhayaderrunningclub@gmail.com, by midnight on Sunday. The evidence must be of elapsed/race time and not just the moving time.

Please be aware that there are no medals or prizes up for grabs this year.

Full results with age categories will be published on the Rhayader Running Club website next week.

At just £5 plus a 50p admin fee, all the money received from the weekend will be donated to Rhayader St Johns Ambulance who have been an essential part of all the club’s popular races, some of which have been running for decades.

When running please follow all current Covid-19 guidance from the Welsh Government and apply social distancing and give priority to pedestrians.
