DUMPING household waste on private land in Caersws has cost one resident £150 after they were fined by Powys County Council.

The incident of fly-tipping was reported by a member of the public and was investigated by the council’s environmental protection team. The team were able to identify the offender from documents within the waste and the resident was issued with, and subsequently paid, a £150 fixed penalty notice.

Cllr Graham Breeze, Cabinet Member for Environmental Protection, said: “There is absolutely no excuse for fly-tipping at any time. But at a time when everyone is doing their upmost to stay safe, anti-social acts of this kind are unacceptable.

“Not only are a small minority of people causing harm to our beautiful environment but they are also breaking the law by disposing of their waste illegally. Individuals found guilty of such offences can expect to receive the appropriate penalties.”

Members of the public are urged to report any incidences of fly-tipping to help catch and reprimand offenders. You can report fly-tipping online at https://en.powys.gov.uk/article/4073/Report-fly-tipping
