UPDATED figures from Public Health Wales show exactly where coronavirus is on the rise within the Powys community.

It shows Welshpool still has the highest number of cases in Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire but the areas of the county with the fastest rising number of cases is Llanfair Caereinion and Caersws, followed by Machynlleth and Four Crosses.

Llanfair Caerionion has the highest number of cases per 100,000 people as cases. The reasons for this are unclear but Powys County Council today warned about an increase in transmission within the farming and rural community.

The Public Health Wales map – which has been added to the daily update provided by health officials in response to COVID-19 - presents data broken down beyond the standard local authority areas and shows how individual communities compare.

The data is gathered using Office of National Statistics figures of middle layer super output areas (MSOAs) and present the rolling number of cases in either a seven-day or 21-day window.

Darker areas indicate higher concentrations of the virus whilst lighter areas show lower transmission rates. The map details state that case numbers are suppressed for any MSOA where there were fewer than three identified cases.

Above, we’ve took a snapshot look from today (November 13) of the latest available 21-day period spanning October 23 to November 20.
