UPDATED figures from Public Health Wales show exactly where coronavirus is on the rise within the Powys community.

It shows Welshpool still has the highest number of cases in Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire - but only eight new cases in the last three weeks.

The area of the county with the fastest rising number of cases is Knighton and Presteigne, with 39 new confirmed cases there in just a few weeks.

Newtown North has the highest number of cases per 100,000 people as cases have more than doubled, while Machynlleth's total number of cases has also more than doubled in the last few weeks.

Llandrindod Wells, which a couple of weeks ago was least-affected area since the beginning of the pandemic, has seen cases triple.

The only area to see cases slow down is Hay-on-Wye and Talgarth.

The Public Health Wales map – which has been added to the daily update provided by health officials in response to COVID-19 - presents data broken down beyond the standard local authority areas and shows how individual communities compare.

The data is gathered using Office of National Statistics figures of middle layer super output areas (MSOAs) and present the rolling number of cases in either a seven-day or 21-day window.

Darker areas indicate higher concentrations of the virus whilst lighter areas show lower transmission rates. The map details state that case numbers are suppressed for any MSOA where there were fewer than three identified cases.

Above, we’ve took a snapshot look from today (November 5) of the latest available 21-day period spanning October 13 to November 2.
