A DRUNK man who urinated in a police cell has been told to pay more than £1,000 by magistrates.

Hereford Magistrates Court heard Danny Aston, 24, appeared drunk when he went to the Merton Hotel in Commercial Road, Hereford on September 11 with seven others, prosecutor Ralph Robyns-Landricombe said.

After drinking vodka for two hours, he left the hotel and was refused re-entry. When police arrived, he ran off.

On October 28, Mr Robyns-Landricombe told the court police had to draw a taser as officers thought Aston had a weapon.

Aston, of Barrs Court Road, Hereford, resisted arrest, but police were eventually able to take him to custody.

There, he demanded a hot meal and threw cereal bars around the cell. He also spat in the cell and flooded the floor with water from the sink and toilet.

The next morning he “vomited all over the floor”.

He was verbally abusive as he demanded to move cell, and urinated over the mattress, Mr Robyns-Landricombe said.

In police interview, he said he couldn’t remember the events of the previous night as he had taken Valium and drunk alcohol.

Defence solicitor Chris Read said a lot of people were involved when Aston resisted PC Preece. He said it was only “passive resistance” where Preece did not co-operate.

He added Aston was shocked to be in a police cell when woke up the next morning as he had no recollection of the night before. He was apologetic and offered to clean the cell.

Aston pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour, resisting a PC and causing £50 damage in the cells.

He was fined £805, told to pay £50 compensation, £135 costs and £80 victim surcharge.
