IT may seem like children have only just gone back to school but the October half term is already upon us.

The fire-break lockdown in Wales covers the half-term period starting on October 23 and ending on November 9, and residents are being urged to stay at home and not mix households.

But that does not mean half-term has to be boring. We’ve put together five top things you can do with your household.

1) Go for a walk

Many people take for granted the outdoors and the greenspaces that are on our doorstep so why not try and take it all in when you go for a walk in your local area. Welsh Government say exercise is important for physical and mental health, and you can leave home as often as you like to exercise as long as you do so from home and alone or with members of your household. Under the new rules, you should not be driving to get to somewhere for exercise. Grab your coat and your scarves and get some fresh air in the great outdoors. Experience what you may otherwise take for granted! But remember to stay safe, keep your distance and stay in your local area. Welsh Government is urging people to avoid activities that involve a significant degree of risk.

2) Halloween

Halloween is not cancelled this year, but it will be looking a little different with the stay at home rules. Why not try something a bit different and try a pumpkin trail at home with the little ones and reward them with a bag of sweets when found. You could also create some spooky arts and crafts and carve a pumpkin – have a competition on who creates the best! The spooky possibilities are endless – but remember to stay at home!

3) Have a movie night

Have you got a list of things you want to watch but just have not had the time? Now is the perfect time to get the family together for a movie night. The rules are one person picks each night though so it’s fair! Get the snacks and get curled up on the sofa and enjoy the film of choice – it’s never too early for the Christmas films!

4) Family bake off

It’s time to put your baking skills to the test with a family bake-off. Did you learn a new skill during the lockdown back in March? Many people dusted off the aprons during lockdown, so why not put those skills to good use and try baking different things? Everyone loves a sweet treat.

5) Zoom chats

Zoom chats are back once again! Online platforms like Zoom became handy when we could not see our loved ones. Although not ideal, we would all prefer to be hugging our loved ones right now, but to keep them and each other safe, Zoom is the perfect way to keep in touch. Have a zoom part or a pamper night with your friends and family. Bring back the zoom quizzes!
