Construction of a new housing development in Bishop’s Castle has completed.

Work started at the Oak Meadow and Ox Leasow sites in March 2019.

Connexus has built 24 homes which feature a mix of 12 affordable rent properties and 12 for shared ownership.

The new development is located on the north western outskirts of Bishop’s Castle.

The town council had identified the need for affordable housing as a means to retain young people and families in Bishop’s Castle, a struggle for many rural communities across Wales and rural England.

Speaking during a visit to the site in 2019, Housing Minister Robert Jenrick MP said: “Oak Meadow is a good example of how government housing policy is meeting the target of building 300,000 houses a year for the next three years, with 240,000 completed this year.

“A good proportion of these new builds needed to be affordable, with shared ownership helping people to get a foot on the housing ladder.”

He added: “I am delighted the Bishop’s Castle community have shown their support as a strong local infrastructure is also important.”
