Welshpool High School has this evening confirmed said that a case of coronavirus has been confirmed in a pupil at the school.

The news means that Year 8 pupils are now being asked to stay at home, as are others who travel on one specific school bus.

The school revealed the incident via a message on its Twitter account.

The Tweet read: "There has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 at school.

"Pupils in Year 8, and those travelling on the small 224 Owens Penrhos bus are asked to stay home tomorrow and await further correspondence."

In a follow-up tweet, the school added: "Important information has been sent via the InTouch system. All necessary steps are being taken in line with the Welsh Government, Local Authority and Environmental Health guidelines to keep everyone safe. Thank you for your support."

A number of schools across Powys have already seen pupils self-isolating because of confirmed cases, including in Llanfyllin and Llanidloes.
