Two Newtown schools that will merge as one at the end of this year needs a new name.

Hafren Junior School and Ladywell Green Infants School pupils have been asked to come up with a new name that is inspired by what is special to both schools, local history, location or anything that they can think of.

Hafren Junior School tweeted: “It’s all in the name. Ladywell Green and Hafren will be merging at the end of this year.

“We are all excited and are now at the stage of engaging with our children on the process of finding a name for our new school.”

Governors will collect the entries and produce a shortlist.

A new English-medium primary school for pupils aged four to 11 on the current sites will open on September 1, 2021. It is estimated the merger will save Powys County Council £131,885 a year.
