A MAN from Welshpool has been banned from the road after admitting drink driving.
Jacob Schofield, 19, of Woodside, Welshpool, pleaded guilty when he appeared at the town’s magistrates court.
Helen Tench, prosecuting, said police received information that there was a potential drink driver in a Ford Polo in Forden on August 30, turning into Heritage Green.
Officers went to the address where the vehicle was parked and asked to speak to the driver. Schofield admitted he was the driver and had been drinking.
He was found to have 88 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Owain Jones, defending, said had Schofield, a bricklayer, not been honest in his admission the police may not have had enough evidence to charge him.
He said: “He is a man of good character and co-operated fully with the police.”
Chair of the magistrates bench Nerys Jones gave Schofield a 21 months driving ban and a £400 fine.
He will also pay £80 costs and a £40 victim surcharge.
