A man will stand trial on allegations he burgled flat then used a stolen credit card in a fraud spree.
Appearing before Swindon Crown Court this week, Jeffrey Ball, 61, of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to a single count of burglary and six charges of fraud by false representation.
It is alleged he broke into a flat in Brunel Crescent, opposite St Mark’s Recreation Ground, overnight on August 26, 2019, then used stolen Barclays and Lloyds bank cards the next morning.
Ball, who sat in the dock wearing a white cable-knit jumper and dark glasses, spoke only to confirm his name and not guilty pleas.
Judge Peter Crabtree set a trial date of January 5, but also listed the case for a mention hearing on October 28 by which time it was hoped the Crown Prosecution Service would have CCTV footage allegedly showing Ball using the bank cards.
The trial is expected to last no more than two days. It is in the list as a backer, meaning that other trials may take priority over it.
