A CORONAVIRUS case has been confirmed at a Wrexham school which had asked a class bubble to self-isolate as a precautionary measure.

The Leader reported on Monday that a one class at St Christopher's school in Wrexham had been asked to isolate as a 'precautionary step' after a teaching assistant developed symptoms for Covid-19.

And the school has now confirmed that the member of staff has registered a positive test result.

In updated statement from the school's headteacher, Margaret Davies, said: "Our precautionary decisions over the weekend means that that class contact group and associated staff have been absent from school since Friday, 25 September 2020.

"The member of staff has been absent since Thursday, 24 September 2020. We are currently working very closely with the local authority and Public Health Wales to ensure that the Track, Trace and Protect system is implemented successfully. All members of the affected class will be required to self-isolate for 14 days.

"In line with our school policy, all areas affected will be deep-cleaned prior to any return to learning. Currently, this is an isolated incident linked to a family member. It is a very challenging time for our member of staff and her immediate family.

"At this time, this affects one class at school. All families have been contacted and have been made aware of the situation. The school remains open for all other pupils

"This is a very worrying time for us all. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me here at school. In the meantime, please stay safe and take care. I am sure you will join me in sending our best wishes for a quick recovery to our staff member and her immediate family."

It's the second time a coronavirus case has been confirmed at the school, after a teacher tested positive three weeks ago.
