Tens of thousands of library books are being made available to order again, the council has announced.

Powys residents will be able to place online requests for specific books on the library catalogue from Monday, October 5.

The move means that readers can now choose the exact books that they would like, from the council’s entire stock of 170,000 titles, and is a feature which many people have missed during recent months.

Councillor Rachel Powell, portfolio holder for young people and culture, said: “We are delighted to be able offer our residents the full choice of reading materials again, so that they can enjoy further collections.

"I am sure that residents will really appreciate the enjoyment of further reading at this time of year, as the nights draw in."

Powys County Council added that all requests placed before the lockdown in March have expired, and readers are asked to place them again if they would still like due to the length of time that the feature has been unavailable.

Readers can use the virtual library online every day and enjoy free e-books, e-audio downloads, e-magazines and e-comics through the Borrowbox and RBDigital collections.

They can also order a goodie-bag of staff selected books through the Order & Collect book scheme, and either collect them from the library door, or the library service will try to arrange doorstep deliveries where needed. Orders can be taken on 01597 827460.

All library use is carefully controlled to ensure everyone’s safety, and readers are asked to wear face coverings and observe social distancing at all times
