Whitchurch Cricket Club finished their shortened summer with two wins out of two across Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, the second XI hosted north Shropshire rivals Cae Glas – from Oswestry – and it was a thumping victory for the Whitchurch side.

Batting first, Owen Silvester and Eddie Lewis – himself a century maker in recent weeks – set about the visiting attack with an opening stand of 63 before Lewis was out.

Whitchurch suffered a mini collapse when both Ed Watson-Jones and Silvester departed on 72 but a fourth wicket stand of 94 between Shaun Reynold (48) and Tom Griffin set the platform for the win.

Griffin – eventually out for 56 – also shared in a stand of 46 with Dave Weaver while jack Giddings was 47 not out as Whitchurch finished 279/6.

In reply, Giddings and Archie Jones were the main men for Whitchurch when they both took three wickets to dismiss Cae Glas for 110./

Sam Appleby took 2-19 while there was one apiece for Jack Batkin and William Owen.

On Sunday, the Whitchurch third XI won a high-scoring clash against Knockin and Kinnerley’s third XI.

Batting first, Whitchurch posted 261 with 72 from Simon Martin and in reply, Knockin fell 49 runs short as James Wojda took 4-24 to seal the win for Whitchurch.
