A town centre clock that has not chimed on the hour for some time needs £8,000 worth of repairs, councillors have been told.
The iconic clock above Barclays bank in Newtown requires specialist work by the only clockmaker who is able to fix the problem.
Cllr John Barker told councillors on Tuesday evening that the town clock was striking at quarter past, half past and quarter to, but not on the hour "for some time".
A quote from the original clockmakers to replace the old mechanism with a modern electrical mechanism came to £8,000.
Town council clerk Edward Humphreys added that it is "specialist piece of work" and that the clockmakers are in the "uniquely placed position" to carry out the repairs.
Councillors agreed that the work should be carried out.
