"Every time of trouble produces opportunities" is the Mayor of Newtown's message to the town during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Cllr David Selby, who will remain in his post until May 2021, urged councillors to continue to work together to access funding to support projects in the town during the next few months.

"I urge the town council to take those opportunities," he said during the Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council Annual General meeting on Tuesday, September 28.

"The town is well equipped with its structures of councillors and its experienced officers to move forward project quickly when they come in place.

"And we are often better placed than Powys Council to do some of that work, so lets work together and achieve those things over the next few months."

The Mayor also said he was proud of the town's response to the coronavirus pandemic.

"I have been Mayor during this unique year and I would also like to thank the town and its residents for the neighbourly and community spirit shown during the last six months has been remarkable and heart-warming.

"Hopefully we will have the opportunity to celebrate that formally at some event soon, but in the meantime I reflect that I have been privileged to be the Mayor of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn and to see much of the best of our town during these past 16 months."
