CHRIS Hughes will be back in the Newtown dug-out for Friday's JD Cymru Premier derby at home to Aberystwyth Town.

The Robins manager did not travel with his side for last week's draw at Haverfordwest County after a family member displayed symptoms associated with coronavirus.

However after self-isolating and receiving a negative test result, Hughes has been given the all clear to return to action.

Hughes said: "Obviously it is a case of being safer than sorry and following the protocols.

"A family member had a cough and we thought it best to self-isolate and follow the rules. Thankfully the test came back negative and I will be back for Friday night.

"Everything is OK now and thanks to everyone for their kind messages on social media."

Hughes will look to mark his return to the dug-out with a first win of the season but expected a tough Friday night clash.

"Mid Wales derbies are always well contested and Aberystwyth have started well this season," said Hughes. "We played them in pre-season in a behind closed doors friendly and we expect another tough game.

"We have played well in patches in the last two games and will be looking to get our first three points on Friday night."

The Robins are without Matthew Williams who sustained an injury at Haverfordwest County while forward James Davies is also a fitness doubt.
