ALTHOUGH Berriew Show was unable to take place this year, the organisers have recognised a community champion with a special award.

Sian Emberton has been recognised for her sterling volunteering in the village during the coronavirus crisis.

President of Berriew show, Karen Kirkwood said: “Out of adversity many of us have been touched by acts of kindness, without which our struggles would have been made even harder.

“It was for this reason that the Berriew Show Committee decided to introduce a new award for 2020 to recognise in some way the actions of those who have helped the community in an extraordinary way.”

After considering a number of worthy nominations before reaching a difficult decision, the judging panel decided that the President’s Community Award 2020 be presented to Sian.

Sian received many nominations and fulfilled entirely the criteria for the award, by giving selflessly to the community during 2020.

Karen added: “For those of you who may not know, throughout lockdown Sian devised and implemented a scheme to ensure that patients received their vital medications/prescriptions by enlisting the help of others but also carrying out much of this essential service herself.

“All this was in addition to maintaining her regular work at the surgery. Sian has been a huge support and touched the lives of many people in need with this kind and generous service.

“It is our view that Sian thoroughly deserves the award and we thank her on behalf of the community.”

Berriew Show would also like to thank all those who took the trouble to put forward a nomination for the award and also to thank most sincerely all the other nominees who have given selflessly and generously to the community during this particularly difficult period.

Sian has been presented with her award together with £100 for her to donate to a charity/charities of her choice.

Karen added: “On behalf of Berriew Show we send the community our very best wishes for the remainder of 2020 and very much hope to bring you a fabulous show in 2021.”
