RESIDENTS in Llanfyllin have been reminded community support is there should there be a second wave of coronavirus.

In March the town council vowed to reach out to every household in need need help and support through the pandemic.

Councillors teamed up with Sheela Hughes, Llanfyllin’s community co-ordinator, to find out who needed help, and also was able to provide help.

A volunteer was designated in every neighbourhood, tasked with looking out for other residents, helping provide food and respite from loneliness.

Residents will recognise people contacting them and will not be asked for financial information

Wales has seen an increase in coronavirus cases in the last few weeks, and 78 pupils and some staff from Llanfyllin's new all-through school began self-isolating this week after a pupil tested positive for the virus.

At the September meeting of the town council, held remotely via Zoom, councillors discussed the possibility that the vulnerable might begin shielding again, and those in isolation might need support.

Cllr Alison Alexander, one of the community group organisers, said the support group had remained functioning all through the pandemic even when lockdown restrictions were eased, and was now starting to people asking for help again.

She said: "We are getting into gear and waking up again.

"We are still here and are going to try and give advice on tests and booking tests if we can get the information."

More information about the group can be found on the Llanfyllin COVID-19 response group Facebook page, and anybody in immediate need can call Sheela Hughes on 07462 343149.
