AS THE demands of the coronavirus crisis have changed, a group of sewists have proved adaptable in providing protection for the public and key workers.

As the Llanwrtyd Sewists came to an end in their production of PPE and scrubs, a few members of the group turned their skills to producing face coverings for the town of Llanwrtyd Wells, free of charge.

Any donations received will also go towards supporting medical services in the area including a community hospital which had faced an uncertain future.

Lindsey Greenough organised the team of Christine Greenough, Dana Conlin, Ainsley Jones, and Carlie Ann Griffiths to come together with the idea of producing free face coverings for everyone in the community of Llanwrtyd Wells as the requirements were increasing.

To date they have given away in the community, near and far, more than 400, three layered face coverings with a hepa filter, sending them as far away as Devon, Liverpool and Scotland.

A spokesman for the group said said: “We have provided them to local businesses in town for customers to use in local shops and restaurants of Cupboards & Cupcakes, The Drovers Riverside and The Neaudd Arms Hotel.

“Donations have been received to produce the masks raising over £400 to date.

“These donations have allowed the team to continue making the face coverings for local people, tourists, and visitors to the town, as lockdown eases and allows our community to feel safe during these unprecedented times.”

Any donations remaining will be donated to local medical services to include Llandovery Hospital, which was under threat of closure, yet stayed open during these uncertain times and remains a much–needed medical facility in the area.

The spokesman added: “Llanwrtyd Wells has been so positive and grateful of the response to the generosity of the scheme, which has taken off in so many other places around the country too.”
