A POPULAR Machynlleth festival is to take place virtually this year but organisers hope it will be back next year.

The 34th Gŵyl Machynlleth Festival was due to take place from August 20 to 23 before the coronavirus pandemic scuppered the plans.

Now the event, which takes place at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in the town and attracts performers from all over Europe, is moving online for 2020.

A spokesman for the organisers at MOMA said: “As with so many other festivals this summer, it has not been able to go ahead due to the ongoing situation with Covid-19.

“We may not have been able to come together to enjoy the festival this year, but we are still delighted to present festival artists Rhiain Bebb, Huw Roberts, Edryd Williams and Megan Roberts from the Tabernacle, in a very special online version of what would have been our late-night concert of traditional Welsh Music.”

He added: “We hope that you enjoy the concert. If you are able to, please help support the future of the Gŵyl Machynlleth Festival, MOMA Machynlleth and The Tabernacle, by donating online at moma.machynlleth.org.uk

“With special thanks to artists Rhiain Bebb, Huw Roberts, Edryd Williams and Megan Roberts, to the team at Culture Colony, and to Arts Council Wales, for making this online concert possible.

“Thank you also to festival Artistic Directors Dennis Jones (Welsh programme) and Julius Drake (Classical programme), to the many other musicians and artists, to our invaluable team of volunteer stewards, to our equally invaluable team of staff members at MTT, to our trustees, and to our benefactors, donors, sponsors and funders, for helping to make the Gŵyl Machynlleth Festival possible each year.

“We look forward to welcoming you back to the Tabernacle in future years.”

You can join the concert through the MOMA’s Facebook and YouTube pages at 7.30pm this Sunday, August 30.

It promises to be a very special online version of what would have been the annual late-night concert of traditional Welsh Music.
