The name of a brand new bar and grill being created at a former Woolworths building in Newtown has been unveiled.
It will be called ’23 Social’ to reflect its address, 12-13 Broad Street, and will be a multi-purpose venue which will be the “first of its kind” in the town.
A spokesman for 23 Social said: “Our vision is to increase the number of people coming into Newtown to revitalise the town centre and benefit all businesses within the town.”
After former building occupants Store Twenty One was placed into liquidation and a popular town centre venue announced it would close in 2017, the team behind 23 Social went ahead to buy the “tired venue” with the idea to provide a “modern positive social space”.
23 Social added: “From here we had a vision of introducing a new social space where everyone of all ages can interact.
“We are looking forward to working with local businesses and community groups throughout the project and we will be using local contractors, reflecting our vision of bringing the community closer together.”
The bar and grill will be open from 11am to 3am from Monday to Friday, and 11am to 3.30am on Saturday and Sunday, as well as bank holidays.
Around 19 jobs – nine full time and 10 part-time – will be created. Job vacancies will be announced soon, the spokesman said.
An opening date has yet to be revealed.
