One more person has died in Powys with coronavirus, figures from the Office for National Statistics have shown.

Latest numbers from the UK's official data analysis body shows that 94 people have now died with suspected or confirmed cases of Covid-19 – one more than had been tallied a week ago.

The death occurred in the week ending July 28, and happened at a care home in the county, the figures show.

While figures from Public Health Wales show a far lower number of people have died, Powys Teaching Health Board has pointed to the ONS figures as a far more accurate representation of the impact of Covid on the county.

They include all deaths where coronavirus or Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, and not just confirmed cases.

To date, 48 people in Powys have died in care homes, 37 people have passed away in hospital, and nine people have died at home.

Nationally, the ONS recorded 152 deaths involving coronavirus in the week ending August 7 – the most recent available set of figures.

That was the lowest number of Covid-linked deaths in the last 20 weeks, and represented a decline of 21.2 per cent on the previous week.
