Concerns have been raised over the lack of social distancing by the “majority of visitors” to Rhayader.

The town council says it has received several emails from residents about the issue since coronavirus lockdown measures were eased last month.

“Unfortunately with greater freedom of movement comes an increase in the number of visitors to our town,” a town council spokesperson said.

“Many of these visitors come with a very cavalier attitude towards social distancing guidelines.”

Rhayader Town Council says it has worked with Powys County Council to place a one-way pedestrian system in the town centre to allow safe social distancing for residents and visitors, without limiting street parking spaces.

The town council spokesperson added: “As a community we have adhered to rules and guidelines to keep ourselves and Rhayader safe.

“While we welcome visitors to our area, we would ask everyone to follow the Welsh Government’s Covid-19 guidelines.

“Keep Wales safe – observe social distancing, stay two metres away from others and wash your hands regularly.”
