READERS had their say on which places they liked best when it came to ice-cream.

1. Handmade Ice Cream Company in Greenodd:

They wanted to be different and produce a completely natural ice cream without all the funny business added and using only the finest natural ingredients. They make all their ice-creams in house as well as their own gingerbreads, sticky toffee puddings, caramels, toffees, fruit compotes and fruit purees.

2. Cumbrian Cow Ice Cream in Ulverston:

Located on the outskirts of Ulverston, they are an on0farm Ice Cream parlour which serves delicious ice cream, milkshakes, waffles, sundaes, cakes and coffee.

3.Roy’s Ices based in Bardsea:

The ever popular ice-cream van based at Bardsea is always a hit with the people of south Cumbria and he is always there to keep people smiling in the sun.

4. Cakes ‘N’ Shakes in Barrow:

The Anchor Road outlet makes some of the best fresh milkshakes in Barrow, with a wide selection of cakes and confectionary, fresh organic bread, and sandwiches.

5. Windermere Ice Cream:

The Chestnut Road shop was originally thought of by Ernest Atkinson, the grandfather of one of the present owners. As luxury goods became more and more available during the 1920’s and new tastes for the likes of Ice Cream, Ernest started to produce by hand, a small quantity of Ice cream.

6. The Little Ice Cream Shop in Hawkshead and Windermere:

They hand make more than 40 flavours of delicious small batch, slow churned gelato in their Hawkshead shop.

7. Hales of Cartmel:

The traditional style sweet shop, set in Cartmel by the Priory, sells a range of sweets, chocolate, ice creams and drinks. They supply sweet boxes and gifts which can be posted or delivered where appropriate locally. They also hire out a ice bike for weddings and events.

8. Chill and Grill Ice Cream and Coffee in Ulverston:

Based on the Coast Road, this well loved ice-cream shop is a real hit with the locals. Check their Facebook for opening times as they are taking each day as it comes because of the coronavirus pandemic.

9. Smilers Café in Barrow:

The Dalton Road store may not be an official ice-cream shop but they do some desserts that are to die for with a new range just announced. If you like ice-cream and other sweet things, this is just the place for you.
