A CHIRK man has arrived back in his hometown after a seven-day charity trek from the south of England in memory of his friend.

Tim Gray-Coles walked from his home in Epping, more than 180 miles from Chirk, in memory of Jason Lee Williams who took his own life last year.

The idea behind the walk was to raise funds for mental health charity MIND, and he has done just that, raising more than £2,700.

Tim arrived back in Chirk on Thursday to a warm reception from those who know him, and described the welcome as overwhelming.

He said: “I’m so grateful to those who took time out to support me and to donate money.

“It’s really overwhelming, I’d just like to say a big thanks to everyone.

“Not just the donations, but even people just wishing me well with it has been amazing.

“Seven days on my own was tough, but once I saw everyone, it gave me a huge lift.”

He admitted the walk was tough, but was pleased to be able to raise so much money for a cause close to his heart.

Tim said: “Obviously I was expecting it to be a difficult task anyway, but the heat threw me off massively.

“It’s been great to get it done and raise money for such a great cause along the way.

“My target was to raise £1,500, and I’ve been able to raise a fair bit more than that so I’m very happy with that.”
