A RECORD-BREAKING adventurer is to run the National Three Peaks challenge for a mental health charity.

Alex Staniforth, 25, from Kendal will be running the 440-mile route this month. He aims to beat the record for the route across Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon which currently stands at nine days and eleven hours, on Friday, August 14. This will equal on average two marathons a day.

Alex said: “My journey is all about helping others with mental health. I had my own trials with mental health, and the outdoors sort of became like therapy for me. It was my escape. I did the three peaks in 2011, and Everest twice. I was in Nepal during the earthquake in 2015."

He is also an author, motivation speaker and co-founder of Mind Over Mountains.

“MOM is aimed at helping people the same way I was helped by the countryside. It’s a non-profit community interest group, and we will be a full charity soon.

“We’ve been facing our own ‘mental health mountains’ recently and lockdown has helped us appreciate how important spending time outside is for our mental and physical well-being."

Alex's goal is to raise £10,000 for the cause.

Supporting him is Kendal's Thomson Hayton Winkley and Alertacall in Windermere. To support this cause, go to givey.com/3peaksrun.
