Laura Ashley has cut prices in its Newtown shop again, as it prepares to close for the final time.

The closing down sale being run as part of the company's plunge into administration will now see fabric and wallpaper discounted by 70 per cent, and womenswear and fashion by 60 per cent.

Ready-made curtains also have a 60 per cent discount, and furniture, bedding, lighting and rugs is now half price.

The discounts are hardly a cause for celebration, however, as they are the latest indicator of the impending closure of a store which is part of the fabric of Mid Wales.

The company traces its history to Carno and Machynlleth in the 1960s, and it still has factories in Newtown.

A spokesman for Laura Ashley said: “There are some amazing bargains to be found in-store, especially with these new discounts. Popular items are selling fast and customers are advised to take advantage of these discounts while stock lasts.”
