THE UK Government will provide £7 million in extra funding to support the Welsh Government during the coronavirus pandemic.

Following this week’s announcement by Chancellor Rishi Sunak that the UK Government will fund thousands of traineeships across England, the Welsh Government will receive an extra £7 million in additional funding.

The UK Government is committed to a UK-wide response to coronavirus and has so far announced over £2.3 billion in additional funding for the Welsh Government to support the coronavirus effort in Wales. The additional funding has helped the Welsh Government to deliver urgent priorities in Wales as both governments work together to tackle the pandemic.

Secretary of State for Wales Simon Hart said: “The UK Government is committed to securing a strong economic recovery in Wales as we bounce back from the coronavirus pandemic. This additional £7m funding can help improve young people’s job prospects and support them into the workplace.

“Working with the Welsh Government, the UK Government will do all it can to protect people’s livelihoods and ensure they have the right skills for Wales’ economy of the future.”

This funding and the £2.3bn already committed to the Welsh Government is in addition to the UK-wide measures that people and businesses in Wales can access, such as the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, the Self-Employed Income Support Scheme and the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme.
