Organisers of the 1940s Weekend in Welshpool have cancelled the annual event due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A celebration where the town steps back in time with tea dances and live music was planned to take place on September 25 to 27.

Organiser Alan Crowe said it was a "difficult decision" to cancel this year’s event.

In a statement, Mr Crowe said: "Due to the uncertainty of what government guidelines will be in place by September and what the situation will be like in general, our priority is to safeguard public health. Many of our volunteers, exhibitors etc are in the 'at risk' category.

"To many of you, this news might be disappointing, but rest assured that this decision was not taken lightly. We hope that you understand the unprecedented circumstances in which we find ourselves"

Welshpool 1940s Weekend will now take place from September 24 to 26, 2021.

"We look forward to welcoming you with an event that will be bigger and better," Mr Crowe added.

Organisers continue to fundraise for the event through an online pop-up shop at www.jumblebee.co.uk/welshpool1940s.
