A SHROPSHIRE coach has joined the coaching staff at a top American university women’s side.

Matt Perry from Bishop’s Castle has joined the Life University women’s football coaching set-up as part of his work toward attaining his MS in sport health science.

The 22 year old moved to America in 2016 having represented Churchstoke in the Mid Wales League.

He attended Erskine College in South Carolina for four years and was a two year captain, overall making 65 appearances.

Erskine finished runners up in the Conference Carolina’s Conference Tournament and narrowly missed out on a place in the NCAA Tournament.

Matt graduated in December 2019, with a degree in Physical Education and Coaching and then moved to Springfield to play for the Demize NPSL and PASL teams.

While in Missouri he coached for Demize Soccer Academy and Fair Grove Girls High School team.

Perry said: “I am excited to be a part of this programme.

“I cannot wait to get straight to work with this great group of coaches and players.”
