A BMX pump track in Rhayader – the largest of its kind in the UK – has re-opened for the first time in three months.

Riders who live within five miles of the track can now visit the facility, but residents are reminded that access to the rugby club grounds, and gatherings of people from more than two households are not permitted.

The latest development follows a plea for funding to help maintain the track and grounds during the lockdown. Fundraising plans by Rhayader and District Sports Association have had to be cancelled and now they are looking for other ways to fund the upkeep of the facility that was opened in September last year.

County councillor Kelvyn Curry has written to many groups and businesses in the hope that funding may be gained to have the grass cut at the track until events and fundraising can resume.

Jen Newman, of Elan Valley/Welsh Water, and the Elan Valley Rangers have this week cut the grass at the Pump Track using their own mowers and strimmers, free of charge.

Rhayader Town Council said: “Donations are welcomed for the upkeep of the track specially in this current climate”.
