A PRIMARY school in Flintshire has created a video to fundraise for Chester Zoo.

Children in the foundation phase at Ysgol Parc y Llan in Mold, have been learning about wild animals as part of their home learning, and became concerned about the animals after hearing of the recent financial struggles at the popular zoo due to Covid-19.

The children decided to take action and create a fun-fact video.

Each child researched a particular animal and then recorded a fact about the zoo, which was then made into a video and linked with a JustGiving page.

Meilir Ashford, headteacher at Ysgol Parc y Llan Primary School, explained the motivation behind the fundraiser video.

He said: "The children loved taking part in the video, but loved seeing their friends in it even more.

"It made them feel a step closer to normality, which was lovely to see.

"The children have also been taking part in a wild animal picture hunt around the village, following a map and answering true or false questions about them.

"They are learning so much about animals and are thoroughly enjoying their home learning.

"Chester Zoo offered us 120 free tickets at Christmas time so we strongly believed it was our turn to repay the favour."

Mr Ashford, praised the pupils and staff for their outstanding commitment to high quality home learning.
